Located on Aram Street close to the Republic Square the Middle East Museum is a relatively new one and was founded in 1993. The basis for establishing this museum was the collection, which was donated by painter and collector Marcos Gregorian.
The museum comes with 2,600 exhibits. It includes works from Russian, Middle Eastern and European applied arts. Of special interest is the Persian section. It features items from the pre-Persian civilizations dating back to the 4-1 millennia B.C., among them pottery from Elam, bronze artwork from Luristan and ritual figurines from Suza and Amlal. The museum’s exhibition also includes Persian pre-Islamic Zoroastrian culture, Islamic culture and Ghadjarac art.
The museum’s exposition is displayed in four showrooms, which are correspondingly named Marcos Gregorian, Islamic, Russian and European. Other than that, the museum has a rather rich library for those who are interested in the Middle Eastern art and a large video collection.
The museum has a set ticket price for students, children, foreigners and locals, and it makes up 300 Dram. It’s open from Tuesday to Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm.
