The museum was founded in 1977, and it includes two halls, a large and a small one. The large hall houses the permanent exhibition, while the small one the temporary exhibition.
The museum was established on the basis of items presented by collectioners and authors. Later on the museum was enriched through obtained and expeditional materials. The museum collects, displays and at the same time preserves wood carve pieces. It’s also noteworthy that one of the goals the museum has set is to restore folk handcrafts, especially wood carve.
The large hall includes three sections. They are:
- Ancient culture section
- Sculpture section
- Applied art section
Each of the sections is amazing and sure to impress its visitors. They also help form an overall idea of how woodcarving developed through the years. The works of modern professional sculptors are presented in the sculpture and applied art sections. As to the Ancient culture section, to have a broader and a complete picture of the history of national culture other than wood-carved items other objects like samples of black and colored metals are exhibited as well.
The museum is also a unique school where many of the authors exhibited in the museum have received corresponding education. Based on the age long traditions of Armenian art professional yet contemporary masters breathe life into the items that have long become a history.
