The boy was in love with his master’s daughter, but the father was against their love and realizing that there’s no way to prevent their relationship he ordered his people to kill the shepherd. Dili’s sorrowful mother couldn’t believe that she lost her only son and kept on looking for him, desperately calling: “Dili jan, Dili jan…” (jan is a word expressing love and affection in Armenian). Later on the area was called Dilijan after the shepherd.
