Armenia is not a sea country, and this is one thing every person who loves geography or knows at least about this small yet ancient country clearly knows. Nevertheless, if you this or that way come across expressions like “I am going to the sea,” then don’t get surprised. What people imply by saying sea is the beautiful pearl of the Armenian Highlands – Lake Sevan.
Lake Sevan is located some 60 kilometers to the north of capital Yerevan, and it takes more or less one hour to get there. It’s the greatest lake in the Caucasus region and provides fish and fresh water to the Trans-Caucasus region. The lake is tremendously popular with Armenian people and is one of the primary summer destinations for not only Armenians but also foreigners. In regard to this, there are a number of accommodation options to choose – renting a house or a room, renting a cottage, pitching a tent or checking out the hotels, which are usually full during summer period and therefore prior reservation would be recommended.
Hotels in Sevan vary greatly and almost every year new hotels appear along or nearby the lake shore. In regard to this all the visitors are given an option to choose the one most suitable to their needs and of course, pocket. The hotels greatly differ in their appearance and service but what they all have in common is the comfort and relaxing atmosphere they provide. Among them particularly stand out Avan Marak Tsapatagh Hotel with its unique bathrooms made of local green stone and handmade tiles, Akhtamar Hotel with its comfortable rooms designed for two people or Best Western Bohemian Resort with its 20-meter long swimming pool. Another worth-to-consider option would be Harsnaqar Hospitality Complex that offers its visitors comfortable rooms and cozy cottages.
All the hotels include a restaurant and a conference hall and offer special options for children under 6 years old. The hotels offer such recreational activities as sauna, outdoor swimming pool, hot tub and so on. The hotel rooms basically come with a satellite TV, climate control, fireproof safe, minibar, hairdryer, makeup and shaving mirror, shower, bathrobes and slippers. Of course, depending on the room type way more amenities might be involved but it evidently assumes paying a higher amount.
Lastly, all hotels in Lake Sevan have a different location but they are close to the primary attractions of the city including the Monastery of Sevanavank and the Monastery of Hayravank.
