Tsakhakdzor is not only an enjoyable holiday destination for all Armenians and foreigners, but also one of the main ski areas and winter sport development cities. It’s been popular since Soviet Union. In 1968 Soviet Union was participating in Summer Olympic Games in Mexico. Soviet Armenian athletes were getting ready for the Olympics in Tsakhkadzor, in the Olympic Sport Complex specifically constructed for them.
Tsakhkadzor General Sport Complex Hotel, former Olympic Sport Complex, still exists; it was renovated and the name was partly changed. Despite all this it has not lost its fame. Just like 30-35 years ago, this hotel opens its doors to all athletes from Armenia and all over the world with modern sport facilities and an Olympic size swimming pool, which is the largest in Armenia.
Besides Tsakhkadzor General Sport Complex Hotel there are many other hotels – from low-price to luxurious and expensive ones. Tsakhkadzor Mariott Hotel is among the luxurious ones with its fashionably and comfortably designed rooms, tasty and delicious food prepared by foreign Chefs, recreational and entertainment centers. It’s also suitable for business meetings and seminars. So you can combine rest and work and will succeed in both.
Tsakhkadzor has a special place, which draws the attention of artists, actors, creative people and especially writers. Located near the forest Tsakhkadzor Writers’ Creativity Hotel-House is a perfect place for a stay if you are not good at sports and want to get acquainted with contemporary Armenian writers and feel the spirit of Armenian literature.
One thing to consider when staying in Tsakhkadzor is to decide where you want to stay – in the central part of the city or a bit far from it, near Teghenis Mountain and the ropeway of Tsakhkadzor. In a broader sense, the location doesn’t affect the prices.
Almost all Tsakhkadzor hotels come with modern accommodation. They are fashionably furnished and air-conditioned. Free Wi-Fi is available in every hotel.
If you don’t have facilities necessary for winter sports, you needn’t worry as some hotels give an opportunity to rent them. Another worth-to-consider option is to visit the rental stores located on the slopes of Teghenis Mountain. Prices start at approximately $10 per 3-4 hours.
Summing up, no trip to Tsakhkadzor will be complete without visiting the Monastery of Kecharis built in the 11th century in honor of Gregory the Illuminator. Also, if you are visiting this miraculous place in winter, then don’t forget to take warm woolen sweaters and hats with you as winters in Tsakhkadzor are cold and snowy. And if you plan your holiday in spring or summer, take a light cardigan to be protected from cool evening winds.
